Common questions

Can you handle a small batch of retired clinic electronics?

Yes. A project does not need to be a full facility decommissioning. Describe the equipment and data concerns, and eLake can discuss an appropriate accepted stream and the records needed for that batch.

How is PHI addressed on retired devices?

Applicable data-bearing media can be handled through wiping/media sanitization or physical destruction, using NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 as guidance. Proof of erasure or an applicable Certificate of Data Destruction can be agreed for the project.

Will a BAA be part of the project?

Healthcare data-handling obligations and any applicable Business Associate Agreement requirements should be discussed during project coordination. Specific agreement terms and records depend on the engagement.

What documentation can our team receive?

Agreed documentation may include a Certificate of Data Destruction, Certificate of Recycling, Disposition Report, Asset Inventory Manifest, Chain of Custody Record, Erasure Proof and ESG reporting, as applicable to the service.
